Marion Woodfork Simmons, the author of a book about Union High School, will speak to the Caroline Historical Society at the group’s meeting April 22.

The meeting will be held at 3 p.m. at the Caroline Library in the Community Services Building in Milford. Copies of her book will be available for purchase.

Simmons, who lives in Maryland, is the author of “Memories of Union High: An Oasis in Caroline County, Virginia 1903-1969.”

Simmons has been researching her family history for over 20 years. She learned her paternal ancestors originally were from Caroline County, and she continued to do further genealogical research.

In 2009 she decided to collect information and memorabilia in order to preserve the history of the communities where her ancestors lived.  Information about her family history and Caroline County may be found on her website,

Her book about Union High School is the first of several projects that Simmons plans to pursue to preserve the history of Caroline County.
