The fifth annual Festival of Feet Memorial Race, which includes 5K and 10K events, will be held April 28 in Bowling Green.
The race, which memorializes former Virginia State Police Sgt. Mark Haygood, will begin at 8 a.m. with opening ceremonies at 7:45 a.m. Participants must pick up their race packets 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. on race day or 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. the day before at Bowling Green Event Hall (formerly town hall), 117 Butler St.
Online registration is available at www.racetimingunlimited.org.
The cost is $10 per person for the 5K event or $25 for a family of three or more; the cost is $20 per person for the 10K (no family rate).
Businesses are being solicited for a $50 donation for placement of a sign along the course or $100 for a sign at the start/finish line.
Proceeds will benefit Caroline Relay for Life, which is a fundraising campaign affiliated with the American Cancer Society, and also the Virginia State Police Association’s emergency relief fund and a new playground being planned by the town of Bowling Green.
Haygood died in 2008 from brain cancer, and his family helped organize the event.
