Drive collects record amount of food

Wright’s Chapel United Methodist Church collected a record of over 33,000 pounds of nonperishable food during its annual Christmas in April food drive.

In past years, the event has collected between 15,000 and 25,000 pounds of food, according to event coordinator Randy Haughn.

“This year’s donations filled all four of our local food pantries in excess,” said Haughn.

The food was collected from drop-off locations on Saturday of last week and sent to Glory Outreach, St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Rehoboth United Methodist Church, and the Caroline County Department of Social Services.

Haughn and his wife, Dawn, who have been coordinating this event for four years, expressed thanks to the community for making this the most successful food drive on record.

“The whole community really came together this year,” said Haughn. “Thank you to all who donated.”
