FREDERICKSBURG – The University of Mary Washington Philharmonic Orchestra will perform at 8 p.m. July 4.
The orchestra’s fifth annual Independence Day Spectacular concert, which is free and open to the public, will take place at Pratt Park in Stafford County and continue through the fireworks display.
The program, under the direction of Kevin Bartram, will feature patriotic favorites and Broadway hits, including a tribute to Henry Mancini and Richard Rodgers, the Battle Hymn of the Republic, and a salute to the Armed Forces.
Guest artist Sue Henderson will sing several patriotic numbers with the orchestra, including “God Bless America” and “America the Beautiful.”
The UMW Philharmonic has brought orchestral music to the Fredericksburg area for more than 40 years. The award-winning group includes approximately 90 members from UMW and the community and holds several performances throughout the year.
The park will open at 6 p.m. for the concert. Guests are encouraged to bring their own lawn chairs and picnics.
