Storm leaves 500 briefly without power

High winds toppled tree limbs across power lines, knocking out power to about 500 homes in Caroline County last night.
The powerful thunderstorms left about 500 Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) customers in the Carmel Church area without power.
The outages were only temporary, however. An REC spokeswoman says only three customers remained without power this morning, and their power now has been restored.
Occupants of the three homes that were still without power did not notify the utility until today, said REC spokeswoman Ann Lewis.
“Residents should always report a power outage and not assume the outage has already been reported,” she said.
