Caroline County Sheriff A.A. “Tony” Lippa’s staff will participate in National Night Out observances in four Caroline County communities on Aug. 7.
National Night Out is a nationwide crime and drug prevention awareness program that promotes cooperation with law enforcement and community crime prevention efforts.
Lippa’s office will staff four National Night Out events at Bowling Green Event Hall, the Lake Land’Or Heritage Clubhouse, the Lake Caroline Clubhouse, and the Ladysmith Village Residents Club. The events will be held from 5:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Residents are invited to attend the events and participate in a cookout. Deputies and fire and rescue personnel will exhibit equipment and vehicles for children.
Knowing neighbors has been shown to be an effective deterrent of crime, according to Lippa.
Residents of other communities who are interested in participating next year should contact Lt. Darrel Beazley at (804) 633-1132 for more information.
The nationwide National Night Out event is coordinated by the National Association of Town Watch and is sponsored each year by Target stores and the U.S. Department of Justice. Over 37 million people from over 15,000 communities participated in National Night Out in 2010.
