Fort A.P. Hill will hold a Christmas candlelight service at Liberty Church at 4:30 p.m. Dec. 12, and the public is invited to attend.
Chaplain (Lt. Col.) James D. Gray of the Military District of Washington will officiate a service that will include music and readings.
People who wish to attend will need a valid driver’s license, car registration, and proof of car insurance in order to be allowed entry onto the Army base.
Liberty Church is associated with one of the oldest Baptist congregations in Caroline County, organized in 1796.
The building, constructed in 1850, is a well-preserved example of the churches built in the county during the Antebellum period. The structure has been preserved over the past 70 years, since Fort A.P. Hill was established.
Because of its historical significance, the church is considered eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places.
