Bowling Green Parade is Saturday

BOWLING GREEN – Santa Claus is coming to town!

Hundreds of people are expected to line Main Street in Bowling Green on Saturday night to watch the town’s annual Christmas parade, a tradition since the 1970s.

In addition to a special appearance by Santa Claus, the parade also will feature a living Nativity scene, courtesy of a float sponsored by Calvary Baptist Church. Mary will be portrayed by Amalee Bouy, 13, of Bowling Green; her sisters, Amber, 14, and Amaya, 11, will portray shepherds.

Over 50 entries had been registered a week from the parade date, and more were expected. Some of the decorative floats will play up the parade theme, ‘A Candy Christmas.’

A touch of patriotism may be seen along with the parade’s varied religious and holiday symbols.  Close to 100 Caroline High School JROTC cadets will participate in the parade, according to Master Sgt. Roland Payne, who, with Lt. Col. (ret.) Robert Pyner, oversees the high school’s Army officer training program.

The guest of honor, St. Nicholas himself, will arrive via carriage at the end of the parade.

The Christmas parade will kick off at 5 p.m., moving south on Main Street from the Broaddus Avenue intersection on the town’s north side.
