The Caroline County Agricultural Fair won six state awards for communications, and fair manager Mack A. Wright Jr. was named Fair Person of the Year by the Virginia Association of Fairs.
Seven members of the Caroline County Agricultural Fair Association attended the Virginia Association of Fairs Convention at The Homestead resort in Hot Springs Jan. 4-5 and took home the wards. The delegation included Mack and Debbie Wright, Herbert Tate, Wick and Debbie Coleman, Macine Williams, and Fran Whittaker.
Wright received an award given to a person in Virginia who has promoted the fair industry in the commonwealth. He was recognized for his leadership with the Caroline County Agricultural Fair Association. In addition, he was elected to the state association’s board of directors for a three-year term.
County fair officials entered a communications contest for fairs of similar size (fairs with attendance of 7,000-30,000 people). The communications efforts of the county fair were recognized with two first place awards, three for second place, and one third place award.
The fair received first place awards for a brochure and an article that appeared in Weekender Magazine. It received second place awards for a tabloid insert produced by Dawn Haun, a graphic designer and photographer for The Caroline Progress, an advertisement in The Caroline Progress, and a poster created by Ileane DeLoach of Page Designs and Printing. The third place award was for an advertising merchandise display.
The Caroline County Fair has undergone significant growth in recent years with the establishment of a permanent fairground home and an expansion of the annual July fair.
