BOWLING GREEN – The town of Bowling Green is making plans for its sixth annual Festival of Feet Memorial Race April 27.
The race memorializes former Virginia State Police Sgt. Mark Haygood, who died from brain cancer in 2008.
Proceeds from the 5K-10K event benefit Caroline Relay for Life, which raises money for the American Cancer Society, as well as the Virginia State Police Association’s emergency relief fund and the town of Bowling Green’s playground.
The family event offers both 5K and 10K courses through the town for people who want to walk or run. Previous races have attracted over 200 participants, and it continues to grow.
The cost for the 5K is $10 per person or $25 per family; registration for the 10K is $20 per person.

Runners should pick up their packet 1-6 p.m. April 26 or 6:30-7:30 a.m. on race day at the Bowling Green Event Hall, 117 Butler Street.
Opening ceremonies for the race will be held at 7:45 a.m. with the race to begin at 8 a.m.
Organizers are still soliciting businesses to sponsor the event. For a donation of $50, a business will have its business sign placed along the course; for a donation of $100, a business sign will be placed at the start-finish line.
