Fire heavily damaged a mobile home on Doggetts Fork Road in the Doggetts Fork area of Caroline this morning.
No one apparently was home at the time, and no injuries were immediately reported.
The mobile home, located only about 100 yards from U.S. 301, was believed to be a total loss.
The fire was reported late this morning. Firefighters quickly got the main fire under control, but they continued to battle remnants for some time.
The mobile home had undergone remodeling, and firefighters struggled to reach flames that were contained between the original roof and a second, newer roof.
People who gathered at the scene reported that a dog was in the mobile home when the fire broke out, but it was rescued by firefighters when they arrived.
Heavy smoke continued to pour from the structure initially, primarily from a back corner where flames had spread outside to a deck and staircase.
Further information was not immediately available from the county’s department of fire-rescue.
