Cavaliers win, earn regional playoff spot

The Caroline High School baseball team didn’t win the Battlefield District Tournament, but they earned a spot in the Region 1 tournament.

The Cavaliers routed Courtland in last night’s district tournament consolation game at Spotsylvania, beating the Cougars 17-0.

With the win Caroline earned a place in the regionals, and the Cavaliers will play at either New Kent or War Hill on Monday.

Last night the Cavaliers pounded Courtland for 18 hits. Holding a 3-0 lead after one inning, Caroline erupted for 13 more runs in the second.

Justin Pitts had a pair of hits for Caroline and drove in four runs. Alex Jeter and Collin Hess both went 3-3 and scored three runs.

Meanwhile, Adam Desjarlais and Ryan Hickman combined to limit the Cougars to a mere three hits.

Eastern View scored two runs in the seven inning to give the Blue Devils a 3-1 victory over Caroline in a district tournament semifinal game on Monday.
