CHS boys track team advances to 3rd among 21 schools
CULPEPER—The Caroline High School boys track team advanced to third place in competition against 21 regional schools on Thursday.
During competition at Culpeper High School, the boys team achieved a score of 77.5, following Lafayette in first place and Brunswick in second, said Sansberry A. Harvey, CHS track coach.
A top Cavalier contender was Aason Pankey, who won in the 200 meter dash. He also placed fourth in the 100 meter dash, eighth in the 400 meter dash, and tied for sixth in the high jump.
In addition, Daquan Pollard won the long jump and grabbed second place in the high jump, fifth in the 300 meter hurdles, and seventh in the 110 meter hurdles; Michael Williams – sixth in the 1,600 meter run and eighth in the 800 meter run; Freddie Romero-Baker – second in the pole vault; Bevontae Morris – fifth in the high jump, and Christopher Jackson – eighth in the 110 meter hurdles.
For relays, the boys 4 by 800 meter relay team with Gerson Cruz, Aaron Carter, Michael Williams, and Reggie Twisdale ranked eighth and the 4 by 400 meter relay team with Elijah Archier, Reggie Twisdale, Christopher Jackson, and Gerson Cruz ranked eighth place.
Chad Boxley placed third in the shot put.
The CHS boys track team earned its third straight Battlefield District championship in a row earlier this month.
On Thursday, the Caroline girls team placed 16th with a score of 14 points. First place went to Brunswick High School. Jessica Toliver of CHS placed second in the 100 meter hurdles, third in the long jump and eighth in the 100 meter dash.
The state championship is set for May 31 and June 1 at Harrisonburg High School.
