State Fair seeks OK to relocate some events
The State Fair of Virginia is seeking permission from Caroline County officials to relocate some events at its property at The Meadow Event Park.
Fair officials have submitted an application to amend a proffer on the site. They are seeking two changes. One would allow moving the fair’s ‘kiddie land’ to a larger area, and another would permit relocating the livestock exhibit area to the south side of state Route 30 adjacent to the equestrian facilities.
Moving the children’s area would improve safety by increasing the area and allowing more room for people, according to the State Fair’s application. Relocating the livestock exhibit is necessary in order to provide more room for kiddie land and also to create more space for the exhibit. Both changes would enhance the experience of people attending the event, according to State Fair officials.
Jeff Dillon, executive director of Commonwealth Fairs & Events, which operates the State Fair, has requested an expedited hearing before the Board of Supervisors in order to have time to make improvements to the fair property.
The Planning Commission will take up the fair’s request at a work session meeting June 5.
This year’s State Fair will be held Sept. 27-Oct. 6.
