BOWLING GREEN – Reminiscent of the movie, “Field of Dreams,” a Caroline Little League All Star baseball team representing Caroline County is saying, “If you sponsor us, we can go.”

The team has high hopes of going to the state All Star tournament. It will be July 11-16 in Pound, which is near Tennessee – 400 miles from Bowling Green.

Since the tournament will involve five nights of lodging, meals, and travel expenses, the team cannot go without sponsorships due to the financial hardship it would place on some families.

The team is looking for sponsors to help defray the cost of the trip, which will involve 12 boys and their families as well as the coaches. The trip is expected cost an estimated $6,000.

Under the guidance of coach Ray Hess, the Caroline All Star team, ages 15 to 17, has won every regular season game.

The team was headed for the Senior Baseball Virginia District 15 tournament, scheduled for Tuesday and Saturday in Kilmarnock, and involving teams from the counties of Essex, Richmond and Mathews.

Checks may be made payable to Caroline Little League with Senior All Stars in the memo and mailed to P.O. Box 1179, Bowling Green, Va., 22427.
