Posted on Monday, January 27, 2014 at 12:15 pm

Beginning Wednesday, Jan. 29, the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin work to replace the Route 654 (Signboard Road) bridge over Reedy Creek in Caroline County.

The new structure will replace the existing structurally deficient and functionally obsolete bridge.

During the eight month project, Route 654 will be closed to traffic at the bridge.

VDOT has installed signs that will guide motorists through the 9.75 mile detour around the work zone.

The following routes have been posted as the designated detour route:

Route 654 (Signboard Road)
Route 653 (Signboard Road)
Route 653 (Burruss Lane)
Route 2 (Richmond Turnpike)
Route 656 (Dry Bridge Road)
Route 654 (Signboard Road)

Approximately 424 vehicles per day will be impacted by this work zone.

The $621,000 bridge replacement project will be constructed by H & L Price, Inc. of Doswell.

The project is expected to be complete in August 2014.
