School officials adopt construction schedule for schools

MILFORD—While adopting the renovation schedule for two Caroline County schools, a school official told the architect that the two schools must not resemble other county schools.

Caroline High School will undergo an expansion and renovation that will start in September 2014 and finish in August 2016, according to Randy S. Jones, chief executive officer of the architectural and engineering firm, OWPR. That project is expected to cost $24 million.

Madison Elementary School will undergo a $4 million expansion and renovation project that will start June 16, 2014 and finish in August 2015.

“I don’t want Madison to look like Bowling Green Elementary School,” said Nancy Carson, vice chairperson of the Caroline School Board, during the board’s Feb. 10 meeting. “Each school needs to look unique.”

“Absolutely,” Jones said. “We are going to take a more conservative approach to the styling of the school to better fit in with the community.”

That means no curved walls and no cookie cutter school designs.
