Luke Price of Caroline High School finished 8th in the Virginia High School League State Championship 4A Wrestling Tournament last weekend in Salem, Va.

His ranking marks the highest a Caroline student has achieved in wrestling, according Steven Swanton, the CHS wrestling coach. This is the third consecutive year Caroline has sent a participant to the tournament.

“Luke has wrestled for only three years, and I’m really proud of how well he did,” Swanton said. “He has evolved into an excellent wrestler who is competing against wrestlers who have been wrestling since they were little kids. Nobody penned him at the state tournament. He lost by points.

“Being aggressive and taking shots have been to his advantage,” the coach noted. “For that reason, he stood apart. Some guys wrestle defensively. Luke’s more offensive and aggressive instead of waiting and reacting to other people.”

Price earned his opportunity to compete by placing 3rd in a regional tournament the previous week. He went 3-1 for the day.
