Free admission, free lunch, door prizes and free child supervision will all be at the 10th annual Family Fair on March 22 from 8 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Caroline Middle School

The Family Fair Planning Committee, Caroline County Public Schools-Parent Resource Center and the Special Education Advisory Committee are sponsoring the event, which is a collaborative effort.  The Family Fair Planning Committee consists of:  Susan Gayle and Jessie Rollins- CCPS-Parent Resource Center; Cathy Gregory, Lynn Miller, Margarite Jeffer, Billie Teague – CCPS staff; Marcia Fisher – Special Education Advisory Committee; LaWanda Pegi Wright – Virginia Cooperative Extension; and Sarah Davis – Caroline’s Promise. Family Fair is financially supported by vendor fees, sponsorships and grants.

Lunch is cooked on the grill onsite by Preston McLain and Bill Green. The goal is to have 500 participants and provide them with information and resources concerning families (infants, youth, teens, & senior citizens), people with special needs, and professionals.  Some benefits for attendees include health and developmental screenings, GED screenings, and childcare provider training. More than 45 vendors promote the services available in the community and surrounding areas, ranging from father topics, career coaching, domestic violence, Medicaid, academics, gardening, motor skills development and small businesses and taxes.

Some of the activities for the children include:  performances by the Caroline Middle School Band & Strings, Rappahannock Area Kids on the Block Puppets, Loopiethotamus book reading by local author- Ayana Sala Baugh, and Square Dancing by a professional caller.

Student volunteers are the backbone of the success during Family Fair.  Over 60 student volunteers from various service organizations from the Middle and High School attended a special training session on February 26th to learn what to expect and how to work with children of different ages, abilities and temperaments. Consistent participation has come from the JROTC, BETA, DIVAS, FCCLA and Honor Society over the years.  All of these students will be invited to a lunch reception at the Middle School and High School at a later date as a “thank you.”  This year,  fair officials will recognize student volunteers who have volunteered the longest at Family Fair.

Everyone who attends is asked to support the Caroline County Food Pantry by bringing canned or boxed food items to Family Fair! Participants will receive a door prize ticket for food donations.
