There was a presence of ground beetles in the commons and gym areas of Caroline Middle School May 2.

The maintenance department took steps to ensure the safety of all students. Teachers and students continued with classroom instruction.

School officials contacted the local extension service agent, Mike Broaddus, and the bugs were identified as Fiery Searchers or Caterpillar Hunters. According to Broaddus, they are a form of a ground beetle and are not a threat to humans. They are considered beneficial insects to the environment.
