FREDERICKSBURG – The Fredericksburg Heritage Day Festival will be a free July Fourth celebration that will offer a 5-mile run, parade, 100 crafters, a river raft race, and – later in Stafford County – a fireworks display. The free event, to be held from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., will feature a wide range of activities for young and old. The state Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin a project to repave northbound Interstate 95 in Caroline County this weekend. The project will require closing travel lanes at night. Lane closures will begin at 10 p.m. Sunday. Northbound motorists on I-95 should expect delays in the work zone beginning at 9 p.m. until 5 a.m. on Sundays through Thursdays. The state Department of Transportation began this week to repave sections of Interstate 95 in the Fredericksburg region, work that is scheduled to continue through December. Counties affected include Caroline, Stafford, Spotsylvania, and the city of Fredericksburg. PORT ROYAL – A Port Royal historical group will unveil four historic markers in the town on Saturday. Historic Port Royal received a grant last year from the Daughters of the American Revolution that provided matching funds to purchase the markers.
