Living history event coming to Port Royal

The Port Royal Museum of American History will be sponsoring a one-day living history Civil War encampment at the museum featuring the 13th Virginia, Company A, on May 17 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The 13th is a very active unit as they have done many living histories, re-enactments, memorial services, etc., in the local area.   • Schools’ Art Show set for May 2

    The Caroline County Public Schools Art Show will take place May 2 at Caroline High School from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The annual showcase will feature student artwork from all public schools in Caroline County. Musical performances and a preview of the CHS spring play, “The Rules of Comedy,” are scheduled. Hundreds of students representing all grade levels participate in the show each year.

  • Port Royal’s proposed fishing pier hits a snag

    Construction of Port Royal’s new fishing pier will have to wait until the summer. The Virginia Department of Game and Inland Fisheries has issued a moratorium on construction along the Rappahannock River through June to avoid disturbing the aquatic life, the Port Royal Town Council heard at its March 18 meeting.   • Meadow Event Park to get new livestock pavilion

    Construction of a 40,000-square-foot livestock pavilion is expected to start in late March at The Meadow Event Park in Caroline County. The pavilion will provide a permanent structure to house cattle during the State Fair of Virginia.     It’s been almost 44 years since legendary Triple Crown winner Secretariat was born March 30, 1970, at what is now The Meadow Event Park in Caroline County. But legions of devoted fans still mark the birthday of “America’s Super Horse.”
