Ruby C. Gatewood

Ruby C. Gatewood, 92, passed away Feb. 9, 2013 at her home near Ladysmith.

Ms. Gatewood, who was known as “Good Mama” to all who knew her, graduated from C.T. Smith School in 1939. She was an active member of the Young Homemakers of Virginia.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James W. Gatewood, and her parents Joseph and Effie Clark.

She is survived by her daughters, Yvonne Sale and her husband, Charles, and Elaine Satterfield and her husband, Donald, all of Ladysmith; sister, Doris Durrette of Woodford; brother, Johnnie Clarke of Partlow; aunt, Ethel Fritter of Falmouth; grandchildren, Janice Sadler and her husband, David, Dennis Satterfield and his wife, Shawn, Jeff Sale and his wife, Tracy, and Jennifer Satterfield; great-grandchildren, Todd Sadler and his wife, Beth, Ben Sadler, James Satterfield and his fiancé, Whitney Green, Chelsea Sale, Taylor Sale, and Danica Sale; great-great grandchildren, Jacob Sadler and Kaiden Sadler; brothers-in-law, Frank Gatewood, Herbert Gatewood and his wife, Jeanette; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

A funeral service was held at Sunset Memorial Gardens mausoleum chapel in Fredericksburg Feb. 12, and entombment followed.

The family requests memorial contributions to the Ladysmith Rescue Squad or Ladysmith Fire Department.
