Florence Eveline Slate ‘Flossie’ Payne

Florence Eveline Slate “Flossie” Payne, 73, of Bowling Green departed this life March 9, 2013.

A member of Bowling Green Baptist Church who possessed the spiritual gift of mercy, which she used to the best of her ability, Ms. Payne was recalled as a devoted mother and grandmother and a person with a special fondness for animals.

She is survived by her three children, Pamela Payne Chenault and her husband, Frankie, of Ruther Glen, Cathy Payne Gravatt of Sandston and Billy Payne Jr. of Bowling Green; six grandchildren, Jennifer Bright, Randal Chenault and his wife, Ashley, Trevor Chenault, Andrew Gravatt, Brittany Gravatt, and Jonathan Anthony; three great-grandchildren; and a sister, Elaine Slate Dillon.

She was preceded in death by her father, Claude Lee Slate, her mother, Eveline E. Weideman, a brother, Allen Lee Slate, and a step-brother, C. Daniel Major. 

A memorial service will be held at Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green 2 p.m. March 15. The family will receive friends at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Hospice of Virginia, 1955 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Suite 110, Fredericksburg, Va., 22401.
