CHS team impresses at conference track meet

Caroline High School participated in a two-day conference track meet last Thursday and Friday at Atlee High School. The boys’ team placed fourth with a total of 100 points. A high performer was Christopher Jackson, who placed first in the 110-meter high hurdles, qualifying for the state competition, second in the 300-meter intermediate hurdles, third in long jump and fourth in the triple jump.   • Surging Lady Cavaliers win three straight games

    The Caroline varsity girls’ softball team had a trifecta last week, beating Courtland on Tuesday, 7-6, in a thriller that came down to the last inning. Then they defeated James Monroe twice in a doubleheader on Thursday, 11-1 and 9-1. Last week’s wins leave the Lady Cavs with a 5-12 record. CHS 7, Courtland 6 On Tuesday, the Courtland Cougars came to Milford for a knock-down drag-out fight with Caroline.

    The annual Caroline invitational track meet last Friday at Caroline High School had 25 teams participating from as far away as Tabb High School in Yorktown and Chopticon High School in southern Maryland. With over 300 athletes competing, the competition was strong and exciting.   • Track team places seventh overall

    At the Woodberry Forest Invitational, Saturday, April 18, the Caroline High School track teams competed against 20 area schools and placed seventh in overall competition. Special recognition for the girl’s team was Alantra Mines, who placed seventh in the long jump. Of special note for the boy’s team were Darius Young, eighth in the 100 meter run and seventh in the high jump; Reggie Twisdale, second in the 400 meters

  • Baseball team adds two wins during break

       By Scott Richards Over spring break the Caroline Diamond Boys found themselves busy going 2-2 in a tournament put on by Riverbend High School.   Play for the Cavaliers began and ended with the Indians of Stafford High School.  On Monday, Caroline beat the Indians with a score of 6-5 in a close game where all scoring stopped after three innings.  Tuesday saw the Cavaliers demolish Massaponax High School 16-4,

    The Lady Cavaliers again have come through representing Caroline High School as the top athletes in the area. On Saturday, April 11, the Free Lance–Star announced their Winter All-Area Girls Basketball picks. Caroline athletes were picked three times including first team pick Hope Toliver, a Caroline junior who averaged 16.2 points per game (team high) and 237 rebounds for the year.
