African-American Genealogical and Historical Society meets March 8

Posted on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at 11:42 am

The Middle Peninsula African-American Genealogical and Historical Society of Virginia (MPAAGHS) will hold its monthly meeting on Saturday, March 8 at 11a.m. at Lowrey’s Seafood Restaurant in Tappahannock.

MPAAGHS is engaged in a project to identify slave-era African-American cemeteries. Persons attending the meeting will have the opportunity to document cemeteries of which they may be aware. The meeting will feature a roundtable discussion during which attendees will share genealogical successes and discoveries, as well as roadblocks encountered in doing family research. Specifically, persons will be invited to share research techniques that may be of help to others and/or stumbling blocks that may have stymied their research.

Following the meeting, there will be an opportunity to order individually from the restaurant’s menu and to continue the discussion over lunch. Anyone who is interested in African-American genealogy and history is invited to attend. Experienced researchers and novices alike are welcome. For further information about this meeting or about MPAAGHS, visit or call 804-758-5163. Lowrey’s is at 528 Church Lane (Rt. 17) in Tappahannock.
