Blanche H. Smith

Blanche H. Smith, 95, of Spotsylvania County passed away Saturday, Jan. 4, 2014, at Mary Washington Hospital surrounded by family.

Mrs. Smith was born in Washington, D.C., and raised in Caroline County, in the Fort A.P. Hill area. She was in one of the last graduating classes of Mica High School and took great pride in attending Mica school and Liberty Church reunions until recent years. She was a longtime member of Sylvania Heights Baptist Church and the women’s Fidelis Sunday school class. Blanche was a dear and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.¬†She is survived by her son, James B. “Jim” Smith (Bonnie); granddaughter Jennifer Kleczkowski (Scott); stepgranddaughters Deanna Skinner (Ron) and LeAnn Smith; and five great-grandchildren, Jeremy Kleczkowski, Leah Kleczkowski, Caroline Burton, Austin Tucker and Jacob Corshia.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her loving husband of 48 years, Dill Smith; four sisters, Virginia Gardner, Nelvoy Ganoe, Mae Mauck and June Holt; and brother Lester Schumann.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 8, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg.

A service will be held at noon Thursday, Jan. 9, at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery, Bowling Green.

The family extends a special thanks to her dear friend, Helen Covington, for her loving comfort and care, and to the staff at Greenfield of Fredericksburg for their excellent care.
