LADYSMITH—A Milford woman has died from injuries she received during a head-on collision between a tractor-trailer and a car on Ladysmith Road Wednesday morning.
Dorothy M. Alexander, 65, of Milford, a passenger in the car, passed away a few hours after the 11 a.m. wreck, said her daughter Evelyn Gooch, owner of Gooch Appliance Service in Caroline County.
Demarcus A. Shields, 30, of New Albany, Ms., the driver of a tractor-trailer, failed to yield the right of way on Ladysmith Road and a Nissan Altima hit the truck head-on, the Virginia State Police reported. So far, Shields has been charged with failure to yield the right of way.
The two-vehicle crash occurred at the intersection of Route 639 and Route 633, which is Bull Church Road, in Caroline County. The driver of the tractor-trailer was attempting to turn left onto Bull Church Road while eastbound on Ladysmith Road, the VSP reported. The Nissan was traveling west on Ladysmith Road when the crash occurred.
The truck driver was not injured, the VSP reported. However, Shery Bailey, 47, of Ruther Glen, the driver of the Nissan, was taken by ambulance to Spotsylvania Regional Medical Center, and Mrs. Alexander was transported by ambulance to VCU Medical Center. “She was on her way to play cards with her sister,” Ms. Gooch said of her mother.
Ladysmith Road was closed for about 45 minutes, VSP reported.
