Matthew James Rose, 8, of Inwood, W.Va., lost his hard fought battle to cancer at his residence Jan. 17, 2014.
Matthew had attended Lewis & Clark Elementary School, Caroline County from pre-kindergarten to first grade. While there, he made a positive impact on the community and was loved by many. He played Caroline County Parks and Recreation flag football and basketball. Matthew was an honorary member of the Chancellor Volunteer Fire Department, Company 5.
Matthew is survived by his mother, Laurie A. Rose and her boyfriend, Sean Hiett of Inwood; father, Donald R. Rose, Jr. and his girlfriend, Michelle Childress of Stafford; two brothers, Justin Williams of Caroline and Donald “Trae” Rose III of Inwood; sister, Brooke Rose of Stafford; maternal grandmother, Cynthia Williams of Spotsylvania; maternal grandfather, Gary Williams and his wife, Hilda of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; paternal grandmother, Ann Rose of Fredericksburg; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Donald Rose Sr.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, at Covenant Funeral Service, Fredericksburg. A service will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Sunset Memorial Gardens.
