Famous photographer Diane Arbus once said, “If you scrutinize reality closely enough, if in some way you really, really get to it, it becomes fantastic. “
Rustic Heart Photography, a new business in Ruther Glen, takes inspiration from the late Arbus, as well as their own life experiences, to create fantastic photos for clients in Caroline and the surrounding area.
Photographers Sarah Edgecomb and Kyle Jordan have developed their 10 years of taking pictures around the world into a business specializing in natural light photography.
“The great outdoors provides the best lighting on the market,” said Edgecomb. Their focus is on color, vibrancy, details, and clarity of the scene photographed.
Clients can expect dedicated customer service and pictures attuned to their special event. All the pictures taken are sold with full copyrights allowing clients to do what they like with their purchase. This business model allows the purchaser to tailor their pictures to satisfy their creative as well as financial needs. Customers can expect high-resolution photos in less than two weeks after the event has happened.
All clients and projects are welcome including, but not restricted to, weddings, senior portraits, maternity, and pets. Both Edgecomb and Jordan have military husbands and share an enormous gratitude for the troops. To help show this appreciation, military members receive 10 percent off their final price.
“I’ve never been so disappointed in my life as I was with my wedding photographer,” said Jordan, who recalled waiting seven months for her to receive her wedding photos. “I only have one picture of my wedding; it’s heartbreaking.”
In a 2012 study by IBIS World, the world’s largest independent publisher of U.S. Industry research, the commercial photography business shows as a $10 billion industry, with nearly 53 percent of that industry being wedding photography.
In this challenging market and tough economy, Edgecomb and Jordan empathize with people who want to have their special life moments captured, and they make this part of their mission. They understand the importance of choosing and trusting the right photographer, and the challenges involved with making that decision.
“We want our clients to know that their moments are what make our cameras flash, our eyes water and hearts beat,” said Edgecomb.
Meeting as a result of their husbands being employed at Fort A.P. Hill, Edgecomb and Jordan have an ironclad bond that will only further enhance their business.
“She literally completes me,” said Edgecomb of business partner Jordan. Together their passion for photography and love for people helps to assure them that they have followed their dreams down the right path.
Currently, Rustic Heart is operated out of Jordan’s home in Ruther Glen with another location available soon in Fredericksburg. Their future plans are to run their business out of an official studio.
