He was the son of the late Ervin and “Dollie” Farmer.
He was a graduate of Caroline High School, University of Richmond and the T.C. Williams School of Law. In 1959, he returned to his hometown of Bowling Green to begin his legal practice. Over the course of his career he served as Caroline County’s Commonwealth’s Attorney, Judge of the Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court, Caroline General District Court, and in 1990 he was the first person from Caroline County elected by the General Assembly to serve as a Circuit Court Judge of the 15th Judicial Circuit. He retired in 1999 and served as a substitute judge until 2008.
He was a lifelong member of Bowling Green Baptist Church. He served as a deacon and a teacher of the men’s Bible class for many years. He was a Past Master of the Kilwinning Crosse Lodge No. 2-237, AF&AM, past District Deputy Grand Master of the 8th Masonic District and a member of the Caroline County Ruritan Club.
An ardent New York Yankees fan from childhood, he also enjoyed tennis, golf, and family vacations at the beach. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Jean Anderson Farmer; his children, Dresden Jean Farmer, Anderson Davis Farmer, Valerie Farmer Ercelebi and spouse Ahmet, Jacqueline Farmer Flint and spouse Greg; grandchildren, Emre and Peri Ercelebi, Michael Stanley, and Wyatt and Peyton Flint; and brother, H. Randolph Farmer and wife Marion. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ervin Davis Farmer and sister, Dorothy Farmer Toombs.
The family will receive friends at Storke Funeral Home in Bowling Green, Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral service will be on Sunday, Nov. 17 at 2 p.m. at Bowling Baptist Church, with Pastor Greg Webber officiating. Burial, with Masonic Rites, will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office and the Virginia State Police Honor Guards will be the pall bearers for Judge Farmer, said Caroline Sheriff Tony Lippa.
