At the Caroline County School Board meeting on Monday, Feb. 13, the board worked to finalize budget priorities so that a budget can be presented to the Caroline County Board of Supervisors at their meeting on Thursday, Feb. 16.
Dr. George Parker presented before the school board the budget priorities for the board to consider.
The presentation began by providing a detailed timeline of the budget development process. The process for the fiscal year 2018 budget started in September 2016 with a staff compensation study and salary scales analysis.
Other important aspects to the budget development process include public budget forums, school board budget workshops and public hearings.
The last part of the budget development process will be on May 9, 2017, with the request to the Board of Supervisors for appropriation of funds.
Dr. Parker next highlighted the Caroline County Public Schools’ summary of 2017-2018 budget requests.
The two major requests for the budget are for Health Insurance and the Virginia Retirement System.
“We first meet the needs of the increases,” Parker said.
These two entities will account for $650,000 of the projected $2,469,009 budget.
