Caroline County has a state champion.
The Caroline High School track team competed in the 4A State Track Competition held at Roanoke College in Salem on Friday, Feb. 23, and Saturday, Feb. 24.
The CHS girls’ team placed 10th in the event.
Caroline’s Alantra Mines is a state champion by placing first in the triple jump. She went through the season undefeated in double competitions.
Mines also snagged fourth place in the high jump at the event.
Caroline’s Sierra Butler took home second place in the shot and set a school record in the event with a throw of 39 feet and nine inches.
The boy’s team did not place, but Caroline’s Jacob Flaherty came in 10th place in the high jump.
Mines and Butler will compete in nationals at Fordham University in Manhattan, New York from Friday, March 10 through Sunday, March 12.
Caroline head coach Sansberry Harvey said he wishes, “good luck to both athletes who will proudly represent Caroline High School with great pride and honor.”
