Recent elect steps down from seat By C. Ruth Ebrahim
Bowling Green Town Council will consider the resignation of one of its
newest members.
On Nov. 22, Patrick DeCrane, who was elected in May to serve a two-year
term, submitted a letter to the Mayor explaining his resignation.
“A personal situation has arisen which makes me unable to continue in
this position,” he wrote. “If I could have foreseen this situation
during the election I would have withdrawn.”
From his home and place of business—ColumnWood Bed and Breakfast—on
Monday night, DeCrane reiterated that his resignation has nothing to do
with Town Council or town business.
He also said that there is no concern about his health or the health of
his family.
He explained, among other things, that the Bed and Breakfast is busier
than he anticipated and that serving on Council took up more time than
he expected.
“I would appreciate your respect in allowing me to keep the details of
this situation to my self without any pursuit,” he continued.
Mayor Frank Benser said he did not expect DeCrane’s resignation, which
was effective immediately as of the Nov. 22 dated letter.
“I was kind of disappointed,” Benser said. “I think he’s done a good
job in the short time he’s been on Council.”
In order to find a replacement, Town Council will most likely advertise
the position, Benser explained. But, the entire Council will pick a
plan of action at their Dec. 2 meeting.
They have 45 days from the date of resignation to appoint a
replacement, the Mayor said. If they are unable to find someone, the
15th Circuit Court will appoint a council member.
