By Terry L. Norton, Staff Writer
On March 16, Arthur N. Thorpe, Jr., 35, of Washington D.C. made an emergency landing on Rte. 17, south of Port Royal, when he experienced engine trouble while flying from Raleigh, NC, to Clinton, MD. Neither he nor his passenger were injured.
According to Virginia State Police Sgt. Brian Olha, Thorpe reported that he was flying at 4,000 feet when his engine cut out; so he made the emergency landing on the stretch of Rte 17 1/2 mile south of Port Royal.
Arlene Murray, Federal Aviation Agency spokesperson said personnel from the Richmond District Flight Standards Office were gathering the data surrounding the crash. They will file their report to the national Transportation Safety Board, which will make a ruling on the cause of the accident.
According to Murray the Cessna 152 Registration N64986, which Thorpe was flying, was built in 1978 and belongs to Gregory Dash, of Oxon Hill MD.
