Caroline High does Shakespeare
By C. Ruth Ebrahim, Staff Writer
A simple set.
Tunnel of Love painted on a standing wooden gateway. This is a story of romance, trickery and mistaken identities. Humorous. Straight forward. In your face. Shakespeare would have loved it.
House lights on.
A stage extends into the auditorium. Seats roped off to keep show goers near the front. Its Globe Theatre-esque in that the audience sits directly under most of the action.
Shakespeare wrote for the masses, and this production gives Shakespeare to the masses right here in Caroline County.
When doing Shakespeare, its often easy to over-dramatize and lose the simplicity and true life-ness of the plot. When Caroline High School students do Shakespeare, they keep it simple.
Last weekends production of Twelfth Night provided all the simplicity and character development needed to do Shakespeare right.
