Cost of living deters Town Manager from Bowling Green

There will be an empty seat at the next Bowling Green Town Council meeting.

Gary Elander, whose contract for Town Manager was approved on July 19, will not be coming to town after all.

"I've indicated to the Mayor that Iím not going to be able to take the position," Elander said on Saturday, July 31 from his Pulaski home.

After being notified that Council approved his contract, Elander began searching for a house in Bowling Green. Living at least five miles from town is a prerequisite set by Town Council for the person they will hire to fill the vacant Town Manager position.

However, Elander said the cost of housing in Bowling Green, compared to his southwestern Virginia home, was ìa real eye opener.
