Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) employees are donating more than $30,000 to the Rappahannock United Way.
REC has been a pacesetter for the Rappahannock Area United Way since 1994. After running an early campaign, REC and other pacesetter companies set the standard for leadership and community support, and encourages everyone to unite behind the United Way’s focus on Education, Income and Health–the building blocks of a good life and a strong community.
“Giving back to the communities we serve is the heart of REC’s values,” said Rhonda F. Curtis, manager of cooperative communications. “Our employees epitomize this value and that is why each year they rally together to raise the most dollars that they can to be put back into our communities to support those in need.”
The money raised by REC employees is the largest contribution from the organization since it became a pacesetter more than 15 years ago. Throughout the years, REC employees have coordinated special events that motivate support for the annual giving campaign.
“United Way Pacesetters set the bar by inspiring other businesses and organizations in our community,” said Curtis. “The generosity of our employees helps to provide the foundation each year for United Way’s work to improve the lives of countless families and individuals living in our area.”
REC provides electric service to more than 155,000 connections in parts of 22 Virginia counties. With its general office in Fredericksburg, Va., the Cooperative maintains more than 16,000 miles of power lines through its service area, which ranges from the Blue Ridge Mountains to the tidal waters of the Chesapeake Bay.
