Carolyn Conway Davis of Port Royal has become the 14th recipient of the Caroline Historical Society annual award for outstanding service in the organization.

A lifelong resident of the town of Port Royal, Davis is well known as “Cookie” in her community. She has been actively involved with the CHS since 1988, serving as secretary, past president of the society from 1993-1995, and editor for the past 20 years of the society’s quarterly newsletter.

During her time with the society, Davis has published, promoted, recorded, displayed, highlighted and preserved the history of Caroline County.

At the society’s January meeting recently, she was quest speaker and educated the group on highlights of the society during the last 25 years through lecture and visual aids.

A mother of two children, Reuben and Harriet, and six grandchildren, Davis retired from the Caroline County school system in 1998 after more than 30 years of service.

She devotes most of her time to her 90-year-old mother, her grandchildren, and her church, St. Peter’s in Port Royal. She also currently serves as vice president of the historical society. She lives with her husband, John Franklin Davis, on a farm near Port Royal.

Davis received the society’s annual award for her untiring efforts during her years of service and dedication to the society.
