The Caroline County Sunday School Union is at work on a permanent history gallery commemorating Union High School. It will be located in the lobby of the former UHS, now home to the Caroline County Community Services Center.

“We’re consulting with the 1717 Design Group of Richmond,” said CCSSU treasurer, the Rev. Joy Minor, who is assisting with the project. “We’ve been trying to collect artifacts since 2013.”

Many items have already been donated, but the group seeks more photos, news articles, trophies, cheerleader and team uniforms, or other artifacts connected to the school.

One star attraction of the gallery will be a documentary kiosk with videos of Union High School alums recounting their experiences there as students. The program will include interviews with former Union High athletes, recorded by Selah Studio of Richmond on Dec. 13. The Rev. Antonio Clinkseals, chairperson of CCSSU, conducted the interviews.

Minor said the group hopes to have the installation completed by the end of January 2016. “We are doing it in phases,” she said.

One goal is to install a medallion of the Union High School logo and mascot in the lobby floor.

“There will also be a Union High School timeline that will move along with timelines of U.S. and world history,” she said.

The Progress also interviewed several of the athletes present for the filming of the documentary.
