The Caroline Cavaliers varsity football team continued on the path they’ve been following since the beginning of the season, falling to the King William Cavaliers 47-7 Friday night before a homecoming crowd that braved the rain. Caroline’s record sinks to 0-5 with five games remaining.
Coach Antron Yates expressed strong belief in the Cavaliers in the midst of the difficulties seen the first half of the season. Recognizing the talent that lies within this squad, he continues to hold high expectations and a positive outlook, he reported after the game.
Yates stated, “This team is going to get into a winning way, they have to.”
The players have gone into each game with the idea that the game was theirs to win. Kyaer Lee, Reggie Twisdale, and Jonathan Brown prior to the game Friday night each expressed confidence that they were ready to play in a manner that would make a difference for Caroline.
Caroline’s only score came with 11:01 remaining in the game on a pass from quarterback Juan Wallace to Brindon Williams from 34 yards out. With Joel Tidman’s PAT, the score was Caroline 7 and King William 40.
At the 5:51 point in the fourth quarter, King William scored for the final time on a 1-yard run by J. Ortiz. The PAT by the King William Cavaliers’ A. Dandridge left the score at 47-7.
In the third quarter, King William buried Caroline with 19 points scored. Quarterback J. Jones completed a 30-yard run for a touchdown with 3:34 seconds left in the quarter, followed by Dandridge’s PAT. Jones scored prior on a 1-yard run following a 54-yard pass play from Jones to Johnson. An attempt at a two-point conversion failed, leaving the score 33-0 at 7:25 in the quarter. To start off the scoring in the third quarter, M. King ran for 82 yards.
On their first possession of the game, King William drew first blood, scoring as C. Peatross took the ball in from 10 yards out. Dandridge began the night by making the PAT. Jones went to the air with a pass to Johnson on a 19-yard play with 2:27 left in the quarter. Jones added two points to the score with a run to complete a two-point conversion, and the score clock read 15-0 in favor of King William.
The sole score for King William in the second quarter came from Peatross on a 7-yard run. The two-point conversion attempt failed, and the score at halftime was 21-0.
Although King William won by a large margin, the game was extremely sloppy with penalties abounding on both sides of the ball. A total of 25 penalties were called in the game, adding up to 217 negative yards.
This Friday, the Cavaliers travel to Chancellor to see which team will have their first win of the season. On Oct. 17, Courtland comes to Milford to take on Caroline.
