Looking for a way to celebrate Independence Day in a style befitting the occasion?
If so, drive on over to Port Royal on July 4.
The little colonial-era town on the Rappahannock will hold its 16th Annual Independence Day Celebration, complete with a reading of the Declaration of Independence, a performance of the St. Andrew’s Legion Pipes and Drums, 18th-century dancing, surrey rides, blacksmithing, spinning, weaving, period music, talks on Abraham Lincoln and John Wilkes Booth, food, and games for kids.
It all takes place from 10 a.m.-2 p.m., Saturday, July 4. New this year, a Market Fair with over 60 vendors will take place from 9 a.m.-7 p.m.
The event is free and is sponsored by Historic Port Royal and the Caroline County Board of Supervisors.
