The Caroline County Chamber of Commerce had a surprise for one guest at their Dec. 10 Christmas party at Magnolia Morning Suites in Bowling Green. Wallace “Lee” Tingler was presented with an award naming him the 2015 Businessperson of the Year for his outstanding service to the community.

Owner of Tingler Insurance, he is currently expanding his business into larger quarters at the old Caroline Market, a former grocery store at 18168 Jefferson Davis Hwy. in Ladysmith, a move he hopes to complete in January 2016.

“As an independent agency we can be very flexible with the companies we write through, so it is not a one-size-fits-all situation for our customers,” Tingler said.

He and his wife, Jessica Napier Tingler, plan to continue their popular “Movies Under the Stars” at the new location. Last summer audiences at the free family-friendly films spread out their blankets and lawn chairs for the outdoor screenings. The Caroline High School band sold refreshments, a fundraiser that helped pay for new uniforms. The agency also helps support the Caroline Humane Society.

Tingler is a Caroline native, a graduate of CHS and VCU, where he earned a Business Administration Degree. He was previously a personal banker at Bank of America, a stockbroker for Union Bank’s Investment Department, and an agent for the Northern Virginia Farm Bureau. He opened his own insurance agency in 2010. He is a former president of the Caroline Chamber.
