The Chancellor Chargers crashed the Caroline High School homecoming last Friday defeating the Cavaliers 61-0, to leave Caroline with a 0-8 record for the year.
Chancellor wasted no time in putting points on the board scoring their first touchdown with only one minute and forty two seconds into the game. One minute and nine seconds later, they scored again, burying Caroline by a score of 21-0 at the end of the quarter.
Going into the locker room at the half, the Cavaliers were down 45-0.
Frustration showed in the fourth quarter when quarterback Juwan Wallace fumbled the ball down near the Caroline goal line. Instead of allowing Chancellor to recover the ball, Wallace kicked the ball into the end zone. The illegal kicking penalty was declined and the Chargers were awarded two points for the safety.
Caroline was hard pressed for offense, accumulating only 131 yards total. 114 yards came from Wallace’s 9-26 passing game. Wallace also threw an interception.
Antonio Robertson, usually a source of strong offense for the Cavaliers, did not start until the second half and ran for only 29 yards.
“We didn’t play good ball tonight,” said Cavalier Coach Antron Yates, “When you go up against a team like Chancellor, you have to play well.”
Chancellor, on the other hand, brought their A-game. Utilizing blocking schemes that left Caroline flat footed, the Charger quarterback Jason Brown had all the time he needed to carry out the plan laid out for the game. Relying on the running of Mario Wisdom (19-251 with three TD’s), Brown used his passing game sparingly, but was able to capitalize on it when necessary. He was 10-11-0 with 119 yards and four TD’s on the night.
Referring to the blocking clinic put on by the Chargers Friday night, Chancellor Coach Bob Oliver said, “Every practice we work on the inside blocking schemes, so these guys know exactly what they’re doing.”
It showed.
This week, Caroline travels to Spotsylvania to take on the Spotslyvania Knights. Next Friday, being the last game of the season, will be Senior night with the Courtland Cougars visiting Caroline.
