*Caroline High School class of 1984 is hosting its 30th class reunion Nov. 28 and 29. The event will be held at the Virginia Center Commons Wyndham Hotel in Glen Allen. *The Port Royal Museum of American History is open to the public each Saturday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Groups interested in additional times may schedule tours by calling (804) 742-5406 or (804) 742-5654. Admission is free.

*The food pantry at Bowling Green United Methodist Church is open on the third Thursday of every month. Doors open at 5 p.m. for registration. Food will be distributed from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

*RT 639 Farmers Market, located in the front parking lot at the old Ladysmith Elementary School, 7278 Ladysmith Road, is open each Thursday through Sept. 25. Food trucks are on hand as well as vendors offering competitively priced vegetables, fruits, eggs, breads, baked goods, herbs, spices, plants, homemade goods and children’s activities. In addition there are vendors that offer local farm-raised meats and organic and non-GMO options for fruits and vegetables. *Bowling Green Community Farmers Market, located on the front lawn of Union Bank, 211 N Main St, is open every Saturday until Oct. 18 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

*Glory Outreach, a clothing and food ministry, relocated to 144 E. Broaddus Ave. on July 1. The hours remain the same: Tuesdays from 6 – 8 p.m. and Fridays from 10 – noon.

*The Sidney E. King Art Center, located next to the Courthouse on Main St., Bowling Green, is open Wednesday – Saturday from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. Featuring 15 of King’s famous Civil War paintings that were once on display at local National Park battlefield sites showing scenes from the battles of Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville, and the Wilderness. The Caroline Historical Society has a room at the Center, and there is a gallery of artwork for sale by Virginia artists.

*Fall 2014 Master Gardener Class, located at the Stafford County Virginia Cooperative Extension Office, 1739 Jefferson Davis Highway, Stafford, is being held Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning Sept. 9 for 12 weeks, 9 a.m. to noon. Deadline to register was Sept. 1 or until filled. Cost is $190. For more information, call (540) 658-8000.

September 6

*VFW Post 10295 Blue Grass Bands will be playing from 7 – 10 p.m. Show tickets are $8 and dinner/show tickets are $12. Jerusalem Ridge & The Hendersons will be performing. Bring your chairs for the outside concert; will relocate indoors if raining.

*Local Author Reception and Book Signing, Dawn Branch. Meet Aaron Reames, author of “The Little Mermaid 2: Marina’s Return: A Sequel to Hans Christian Andersen’s Classic Fairy Tale,” between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Light refreshments and books available for sale and signing.

*48th Annual Craft Show on the Boardwalk, Rte 3. East to Rte. 205, Colonial Beach, from 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. Enjoy a dazzling array of arts and crafts to appease your collector’s tastes and great food. Sponsored by the Colonial Beach Chamber of Commerce.

September 13

*Reedy Church Ruritan Club Variety Show, 26328 Sunshine Road, Old E. P. School beginning at 7 p.m. A variety of local singers will be performing and food and drinks will be available. Tickets are $8.

*Madison Ruritan Club, 18206 Timothy Ln. Ladysmith, is having their annual AYCE Crab and Shrimp Feast from 1 – 4 p.m. Tickets are $35 and include crabs, shrimp, hushpuppies, hot dogs, beer, soda, and tea. No tickets will be sold at the gate. For more information, call (804) 448-3111.

*Caroline County Department of Social Services is hosting an Open House for individuals and families interested in becoming a foster parent for children in the Caroline County community area at 6:30 p.m. A short program on how to become certified and a question-and-answer session will take place during this time. *Cover Crop and Soil Health Field Day is being held at Springfield Christian Church and Keenbell Farm from 2:30 – 7 p.m. Speakers include Jim Tate, Conservation Specialist, J.B. Daniel, Forage and Grassland Agronomist, Chris Lawrence, Cropland Agronomist, and Jason Martin, biologist. Dinner will be provided. The event is free but participants must register by Sept. 17. *Caroline’s Promise President’s Cup Golf Tournament, Pendleton Golf Course. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9 a.m. A variety of competitions will be offered with prizes for the winning teams and players. A grilled buffet lunch is included in the fee, and Mulligans will be available for purchase. All proceeds will go toward youth programs for Caroline County. Fredericksburg-Rappahannock Chapter of the Izaak Walton League of America will once again host The Fredericksburg Dog Mart at their Chapter grounds in Spotsylvania, Virginia. The annual event is “A True Family & Sportsman’s Event” and a great day of fun and enjoyment for all. Bring your family dog and give him “A Dog’s Day Out”! All dogs must be on a leash. *Charter Day Fall Festival is being held at the Port Royal Town Hall, 419 King St., Port Royal, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Live music, food, beer, shopping, kids activities, and a silent auction will be offered to celebrate the town’s birthday and the river heritage.
