Ahmad Goodall, the 16-year-old who shot 15-year-old Elijah “Buck” Ball outside the Caroline Family YMCA this March, was sentenced Dec. 3 to 24 years in prison.
In exchange for a reduction in the charges from first- to second-degree murder, Goodall pled guilty Aug. 27 in Caroline Circuit Court to four charges: second-degree murder of Ball, second-degree attempted murder of Ball’s half-brother Jamal Kelly, and two counts of use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.
Goodall had faced up to 58 years in prison. Caroline County Circuit Judge Patricia Kelly reduced that to 40 years (24 suspended) for Ball’s murder, eight years mandatory for the two firearms charges and 10 years (suspended) for the attempted murder of Jamal Kelly. Judge Kelly’s decision was based on psychological evaluations of Goodall, and additional violent behavior while he was held at Merrimac Juvenile Detention Center in Williamsburg.
