Hanover man arrested after Sunday shooting

Terry SmithersA shooting incident in Dawn last Sunday resulted in non-life-threatening injuries and an arrest.

Caroline County Sheriff’s Office investigators arrested 23-year-old Terry Smithers, of Hanover, on charges of attempted malicious wounding, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possessing a firearm as a felon in relation to the shooting incident that occurred during a large birthday party on Jan. 18 at the Dawn Progressive Center.

Investigators reported collecting more than 20 bullet casings from the scene of the shooting and found several bullet holes throughout the Dawn Progressive Center building. Six separate vehicles were also struck by bullets during the incident.

A 26-year-old King William County resident received non-life-threatening gunshot wounds and has since been treated and released by a hospital.

Caroline County Sheriff Tony Lippa stated, “This investigation is ongoing and additional arrests are expected.”

The Caroline County Sheriff’s Office is asking for anyone with information about this incident to call the Richmond Metro Crime Stoppers at (804) 780-1000. A cash reward of up to $1,000 may be paid for information assisting in this investigation.
