Harry Thomas Newman, Sr.

Harry Thomas Newman, Sr., 71, of Woodford, died Monday, Feb. 16.

He was born on Jan. 25, 1944, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, a son of the late George Oscar Newman and Pearl Muraski Newman. Harry joined the Marine Corp after high school in 1961, where he served in Vietnam and several tours in Okinawa. In 1983, after serving his country for 22 years, he retired with his family, in Virginia where he was last stationed at Quantico. He then drove a school bus for Caroline County Schools for many years. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

He is survived by his daughter, Christine V. and Garret Lewis, of Ruther Glen; sons, Harry T. and Rebekah Newman of Ruther Glen, and Thomas J. and Susan Newman of Ashburn; a sister, Marlyn Palmer of Pennsylvania; and brothers, George Newman of Ohio, and David Newman of Pennsylvania; six grandchildren: Zachary, Wyatt, and Maxwell of Ruther Glen, and Henry, Charlotte, and William of Ashburn.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife Charlotte Kruhm Newman, and a sister, Linda Newman Cook. A memorial service will be at Bethany Baptist Church on Saturday, Feb. 21, at 4 p.m., with the Rev. Ben Thomas officiating and reception following.
