The old Port Royal School is accepting requests for classes of fourth graders to spend a day in the one-room building located on Route 301 in the Town of Port Royal.
The school’s award-winning living history program takes place each year during the months of May and October.
Fourth grade “scholars” from area public, private, and Christian schools arrive at the site at 10 a.m. and remain until 2 p.m., when they return to their regular school building.
The classroom teacher attends with the students, but the program is taught a retired educator who developed and implemented the project more than 15 years ago.
The school day begins with devotions and physical inspection and includes sessions in penmanship, arithmetic, reading, history, geography, and a spelling bee.
Students bring lunch with them and participate in a recess period of organized games after the meal at noon.
The cost of $25 per class includes all of the supplies needed for the field trip. Reservations may be secured by calling (804) 742-5406.
