I-95 clear but patches of ice and snow remain on some primary and key secondary routes

As temperatures dropped well below freezing overnight, crews plowed and treated I-95 and primary routes throughout the 14-county Fredericksburg district. However secondary routes and subdivision streets remain snow and ice covered, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. Motorists are urged to delay their morning commute, if possible.     Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) snowplows are out in full force. You can track their location and see their progress at: http://vdotplows.org/. This website also provides numerous webcams to view live roadway conditions. Plows are working on the most frequently traveled roads first. It may be a day or two before all neighborhood streets are plowed, especially as snow continues before tapering off later today.

  • State Police officials offer driving tips for winter weather

    From 5:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday, Virginia State Police dispatchers  received 583 calls for service.  Of those calls for service, troopers responded to 437 motor vehicle crashes mostly involving property damage and 87 disabled vehicles. State Police investigated one confirmed weather related traffic fatality that occurred in Amelia County earlier this morning.     Weather conditions are clearing in the Fredericksburg District, and Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) crews are working hard to plow Interstate 95 and primary roads down to bare pavement before single-digit temperatures overnight freeze any remaining moisture on the road, VDOT reported.   • Guardrail repair scheduled for Route 2 near Bowling Green

    Motorists will be restricted to one lane at various locations on Route 2 near Bowling Green on Thursday and Friday (March 6 and 7) from  9 a.m. to 3 p.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation. Crews will repair or replace the guardrail. Flaggers will direct motorists through the work zone.

    FREDERICKSBURG – Beginning at 11 a.m. today, VDOT crews  began anti-icing operations on Interstate 95 and on heavily traveled primary routes in the Fredericksburg region, including Caroline County.
